CEO Shares Thoughts on Capital Recovery’s 34th Year

Aug 27, 2019

This post is from our CEO, Bill Rousselle, who shared some thoughts as the company celebrates its 34th anniversary.

Q: Tell us about Capital Recovery’s history.

A: I started Capital Recovery Corporation in August of 1985. I was 38 years old. I had spent my entire adult life doing collections for a living, from my college days and up to that time. I worked for start-up agencies as well as larger, more established businesses. My personal goal was always to be the best and most reliable person there. When I finished school, I still loved what I was doing, was good with it, and loved where I was working, so I stayed right there.

Meeting people and getting to know people in the industry opened up doors and opportunities that sometimes I felt obligated to explore both for personal advancement and professional growth. I learned through those experiences that there were good and better ways to do things. I learned not only the work product and the needs of the client, but how to work in tandem with management and colleagues is the true formula for success, and I took that with me when I started Capital Recovery. Q: What have you learned in 34 years of doing business?

A: My personal travels through this career path were influenced equally by those people and situations that I liked and those that I didn’t. I had my eyes wide open with every endeavor. When I thought it was time to reach out on my own, I made sure that I emphasized those elements that I thought were great and was conscious of those that weren’t to avoid problems that can come from them. The biggest thing I learned is that you are only as good as the people around you. I remember having lunch with my first employee after she retired,  who had worked for Capital Recovery for our first 21 years. I was away from the table when she told the server that I “was her boss for that long.” The server turned to me when I returned and asked, “Are you a good boss?” I told her, “I have good people.”

Q: What’s ahead for you and Capital Recovery?

A: I truly love what I have done, what I am doing, and could never imagine doing anything else. I’m most proud of the accomplishments and recognition Capital Recovery has earned in this field, and my hope and goal is for it to continue long after the torch has been passed. Because of the culture that’s been created and established, I have no doubts that it shall.

When not working, Bill spends time with his five grandchildren and loves to play golf. He’s had two hole-in-ones! (One of those pictured here.)
